Why am I prompted to add my name in SkillLab?

Workspace names are required in SkillLab and are used to clearly identify learning environments for instructors and students.

Because student email addresses are masked by default in the instructor search box, workspace and student names are essential for reliable identification and searchability.

If you are prompted to add your name, click the Add name button at the top of the SkillLab page. You will be taken to your /settings page where you can enter your first and last name. After saving, you can return to SkillLab using the global sidebar.

For privacy, the instructor search box displays a student’s first name and only the first initial of their last name. This allows instructors to identify students without exposing full personal details.

  • Required field: A workspace name must be provided when creating or editing a workspace.
  • Searchability: Student names allow instructors to locate learners without relying on masked email addresses.
  • Privacy-aware display: Last names are shown as initials in instructor search results.
  • Instructor organization: Clear workspace names help distinguish between classes, cohorts, or training programs.

If student names are missing, instructors may have difficulty identifying learners in the SkillLab dashboard due to email and name privacy masking.

Workspace names can be updated at any time from the workspace settings without affecting student progress or historical data.
