Why is a student not appearing in SkillLab search?

Instructor search in SkillLab shows students who have joined a workspace using a valid invite link. Search results are privacy-aware and may display limited information until a student completes their profile.

If an instructor cannot identify a student in the search box, it is usually due to one of the following reasons:

  • Name not added: Students who have not added a name will still appear in search, but only with a masked email address instead of a readable name.
  • Invite link not completed: Students must sign in directly from the invite link to be associated with the workspace. If they navigate away before signing in, the invite must be opened again.
  • Privacy-aware display: Instructor search shows a student’s first name and last initial, with email addresses masked by default.

Refreshing the invite link is safe, but if a student leaves the page and later signs in without the invite link, they will not be automatically associated with the workspace.

This behavior ensures that students are only added to a workspace when they intentionally join using a valid invite link, while still keeping onboarding simple and secure.
