How does SkillLab track your participation?

Published
Updated

SkillLab tracks your participation by recording meaningful learning actions you complete inside HuntCode—such as submitting lesson quizzes and completing hands-on exercises. Each day on the activity heatmap represents your learning activity, and darker squares indicate higher levels of participation.

What counts as participation

Participation is recorded when you complete meaningful learning actions. These reflect real progress, not passive activity.

  • Lesson quiz submitted: Submitting a lesson quiz records participation for that day.
  • Module assessment passed: Completing an assessment reflects a major learning milestone.
  • CodeLab challenge completed: Successfully finishing a CodeLab task records hands-on participation.

What does not count

To keep metrics accurate and meaningful, passive or accidental actions are not counted.

  • Refreshing pages: Reloading a page does not count as activity.
  • Idle time: Leaving a page open does not increase participation.
  • Scrolling or reading only: Viewing content alone does not record activity.
  • Duplicate actions: Repeating the same action may not be counted multiple times.

How the activity heatmap works

The activity heatmap provides a timeline view of your participation over time.

  • One square = one day: Each square represents a calendar date.
  • Color intensity: Darker squares indicate more activity.
  • Details: Hover over a square to see your activity for that day.

Timezone and day boundaries

Participation is grouped by day. Activity near midnight may appear on the next day depending on your timezone and when it was recorded.

If activity appears on an unexpected date, it is typically due to when the event was logged.

Common questions

Why did the square update quickly when I clicked it?
The activity panel loads your daily data. If loading is fast, it may appear as a quick visual update.

Why does a day show no activity even though I studied?
Only tracked learning actions are counted. Reading or browsing without completing an action may not record activity.

SkillLab tracking will continue to evolve, but the goal remains the same: reflect meaningful participation—not passive time spent on a page.
